Alkmaar
The most important sights that your private guide will show are the public weighing house, home to the weekly cheesemarket on Fridays during the summer (april – first Friday September), Saint Lauren Church and the pretty 16thcentury constructed town hall. House with the bullet is a wooden building from the 16th century with a bullet in its façade dating back to the days of the war against Spain in 1573. See the lively shoppingstreets and relax on of the many terraces in Alkmaar. The town of Alkmaar has over 400 monuments and is the oldest city in this part of the country, most likely founded by the Romans. Your visit to Alkmaar is made complete with a visit to the Cheesemuseum. In this museum you will learn all about the process of cheesemaking from milk to the cheese you find back home in your local supermarket.
Amsterdam
This is the perfect coach or walking tour to become familiar with Amsterdam in a short period of time, max. 4 hrs. Our guide will show your group the most important highlights of the city, such as the royal palace, Museumsquare, Amstel river, the beautiful canals or take you on a visit to one of the many museums: Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh Museum.
Arnhem
The city has a rich and fascinating history that is perfect for exploring on a walking tour of Arnhem. As the famed site of World War II battles, Market Garden operation in particular, the city or Arnhem has commemorated the lives lost during the war with the John Frost Bridge, the city’s most important bridge stretching over the Rhine river. Pay your respects at the famous bridge, and then head over to the city’s highest landmark, the Eusebius Church. Take the panorama lift of the church’s tower, reaching as high as 76 meters, and take in the spectacular views of the city and the surrounding region from the top (not included).
Delft
The name of Delft is world famous for its blue earthenware: Delft Blue. But Delft is also the town where the members of the Dutch royal family are buried inside the New Church. In this church your group will find the mausoleum of the founding father of the Netherlands, William the Silent. Our tour through Delft will start by this church and will take you to famous sights such as the town hall and the Prince court. Furthermore Delft used to be the hometown of renowned 17th C. painter Johannes Vermeer.
Den Bosch
Discover the cultural city of the south accompanied by a guide. It is a beautiful fortified city full of monuments such as the town hall and the Mondriaan. The city of medieval buildings above the Binnendieze (old system of waterways in Den Bosch). With beautiful houses, cozy streets, lots of cafes and nice shops. In addition to the beautiful monuments, Den Bosch is also the city of contemporary art and high-tech companies.
Dordrecht
Officially Dordrecht is the oldest ‘city’ of the country. Already in the year 1220, before any other city in The Netherlands, Dordrecht was granted the privilege of city rights. A visit to this medieval trading town will take your group back into the middle ages. In the old town they will get to see highlights such as the court, the town hall, the Augustine Church, the city’s main gate “Groothoofdspoort” and many historical warehouses and the houses of Dordrecht’ patricians.
Enkhuizen
The most important sights that you will see are the Dromedary defense tower, recently renovated into a great cultural centre. The Snouck van Loosenpark, a beautifull park erected late 19th Century as a social housing project. Admire the high tower of the South Church and its famed organ from 1621. See the lively harbour and shoppingstreet. Wandering through the streets of Enkhuizen will take you back in time to the days of the Golden Age. Your visit to Enkhuizen is made complete with a visit to the famed Zuiderzeemuseum. The Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen revives the stories of people who once lived on the shores of the Zuiderzee. See, hear, taste and smell everyday life around the Zuiderzee as it was before the Afsluitdijk (IJsselmeer Barrier Dam) changed the sea into the IJsselmeer in 1932. In the wintertime, you can explore the indoor museum, housing the treasure chest of the Zuiderzee. Temporary exhibitions display the rich collection of the Museum.
Gouda
The name of Gouda is not just a synonym for cheese, tobacco pipes and syrup waffles, but also for the beautiful stained glass windows of the Saint John Church, the gothic town hall and the charming cheese weighing house. Our guide will show all these aspects of the city during your group’s walk through this medieval town.
Groningen
As a lively university city, Groningen has the youngest average population in The Netherlands. It has a long and turbulent history, which becomes evident while admiring the historic warehouses, courts and buildings. Groningen was once proclaimed the city with the best city centre in the Netherlands. Experience all of this and explore Groningen with our guide. During the tour we will climb the Martini tower (the old grey), Groningen’s landmark for over 500 years and offering a splendid view over the city.
Haarlem
See the friendly houses of the Frans Hals Museum, once home to this famous Dutch painter of the golden age. Hidden treasure Hofje van Oostschot or one of the other many patios that are found everywhere in downtown Haarlem. See the lively shopping streets and market square. Wandering through the streets of Haarlem will take you back to the glory days of Haarlem in the 16th and 17th Century, but you will also encounter some great modern architecture built no more then a few years ago. Your visit to Haarlem is made complete with a visit to the famed Saint Bavo Church, whose construction started in the middle ages. One of its famous visitors has been Mozart, who played the famous Müller organ at the age of 10. Other famous composer who played the organ is Händel.
Hoorn
Explore the Hoorn in 2 hours bypassing historical monuments such as The hidden love chapel, once built as a private chapel for a half catholic/half protestant couple. Touch, just like locals did decades ago, the façade of the Saint John Hospice. See the lively harbour and shoppingstreet. Learn about Jan Pietersz Coen, son of Hoorn and founder of former Batavia City, present Jakarta in Indonesia .
Wandering through the streets of Hoorn will take you back in time to the days of the VOC (United East Indian Company) that made Holland in the 17th Century one of the most influential countries in the world. Hoorn in those days was one of the 6 main towns from the main towns from the VOC.
Keukenhof
From the agreed meeting point our guide will take your group past the colourful fields towards the Keukenhof, open from March 19th until May 8th 2022. There is no place on earth where Spring comes alive as colourful as in this huge park. Keukenhof has millions of tulips on display, breathtaking flowershows, the largest sculpture garden of the Netherlands and may claim to be one of the most photographed spots on earth. The Length of the tour depends upon the required time at Keukenhof.
Leeuwarden
The city of Leeuwarden arose from a number of three mounds at the shore of the Middelzee, an estuary of the North Sea. Already before the year 1000 there were people living here. Around 1600 Leeuwarden belonged to the ten most important cities in the Netherlands. More recently Leeuwarden was chosen as European Capital of Culture in 2018. The walking tour takes you through the historic centre of the city with a short visit to the leaning tower Oldehove and to the Fries Museum where you can learn everything about Friesland.
Leiden
Due to the presence of the country’s oldest university, this town is
internationally renowned as a student town with the most famous alumni being our king Willem Alexander. Leiden though has more to offer and was the 2nd town of the country during the Golden Age. Like Amsterdam Leiden has a splendid centre of canals with many highlights. Our guide will show you these during the walk. Fine examples are the St. Peter church, the old town hall and the canal Rapenburg with the university.
Maastricht
Maastricht, one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, has ripened well with age with complex and lively cultural overtones added over centuries by the Romans, Germans and French. This rich cultural palette is the secret behind the city’s attractiveness, drawing visitors to the historic city centre and a wealth of museums and festivals. During a city walk our guide will lead you to the most beautiful spots in the historic centre, including the Stokstraat district, the town ramparts, and the Vrijthof with the monumental St. Janskerk (Church of St. John) and the St. Servaas Basiliek (Basilica of St. Servatius).
Nijmegen
Even though Dordrecht may rightfully claim to be the oldest ‘city’ in the country, Nijmegen can successfully state to be a much older settlement than Dordrecht. Nijmegen was already founded in Roman times, so about 1000 years earlier. Many things about this era can be found back in the museum Valkhof. Being able to look back on such a long history, Nijmegen has more to offer then just the Roman days. During your walk your guide will show you the old roman walls, but also the powder tower and the corn market.
Rotterdam
Until recently, Rotterdam was the largest cargo harbour in the world. It is also though the only town in the Netherlands with a real skyline like Frankfurt, Paris, Warschaw and London. A bus or walking tour in Rotterdam will take you past all highlights Rotterdam has to offer: Tempting modern architecture, the old town hall, the Pilgrim fathers’ original port of departure Delfshaven, the Euromast and the Erasmus bridge. These are just a few examples of all your group will see.
The Hague
The Dutch government is based in the city of The Hague and also the offices of our king can be found within its city boundaries. During this royal coach tour, our guide will take your group past all the highlights of the city. The parliament buildings, beach town Scheveningen, the Peace Palace, the Prisonersgate and the Mauritshuis are just a few examples of these highlights. During the tour you will make several stops to have a closer look at these monuments. A prolonged stop is made at the peace palace where a 45-minute break is made to the visitors centre to learn about the Palace and its institutions through a short movie and a contemporary exhibition.
